Basílica Catedral

In 1730, the first chapel of the city was erected on the site where the Cathedral stands today. Important modifications were made between 1882 and 1887 under the direction of Architect Arnaldi.

The current facade of the minor Basilica was modified in 1927 by Architects Gerbino and Schwarz who introduced elements that frame and decorate the portal that replaced the previous one.
Currently, the building has two imposing towers, a transept (the intersection between the main nave and another transversal nave) and a main dome with a diameter of 39 feet over a drum with stained glass windows. These were conceived to create an atmosphere of recognition in this section of the church.
Crowning the lantern that gives light to the dome, through vertical walls with windows, there is a wooden cross covered with zinc that rises to 26 feet high.
Two of the five bells are housed in the cupolas that cover the towers.
