On March 27th, 1867, the Rosario Cricket Club was founded, created by a group of English immigrants who came to the neighborhood to work on the construction of the Rosario-Cordoba Railway.
Brothers Carlos and Eduardo Jewell donated the land where the first sports club in the area was established. In 1889, the institution took the name of Club Atletico del Rosario. It is popularly known as Plaza Jewell in honor of its donors.
Club Atletico del Rosario has been a pioneer in the practice and promotion of many sports in the country.
The Jewell brothers also built several buildings with the aim of creating an English neighborhood in the city, in what was known as Quinta Jewell near the railroad warehouses.
