Hospital Carrasco

This hospital was founded in 1897 as a leprosarium and was mainly intended for patients with infectious contagious diseases.

It occupies two blocks that include the original buildings, and the new structures of the hospital. Behind the current entrance, the old isolation area for patients with cholera and leprosy can be seen.

The type of pavilion structure consisted of separate buildings, distributed in a green space designed to minimize the risk of contagion. This arrangement allowed patients to be isolated according to their diseases, ensuring adequate natural ventilation for each ward. Over the years, new sectors, teaching rooms, external offices, numerous specialties, and the Board of Contributors were incorporated into the hospital. In this way, over time, it has become one of the public health centers of the 2nd level of complexity that have great regional reference.
