Originally, the zoo “Jardín zoológico” operated here.
It was one of the first public institutions of this area, which by the 20th century was occupied by small country farms.
The zoo had diverse species from the Buenos Aires zoo, among others. Big cages with exotic species and large aviaries alternated with paths and autochthonous vegetation.
The institution, which was later moved to the place where The Garden of Children (or El Jardín de los niños) is nowadays, tried to give access to scientific knowledge to the general public.
