The lady of the lake

A sculpture, a woman, a story.

On one of the ponds located at Parque Independencia there is a sculpture of a woman lying on an islet. At the unveiling, the statue made a great commotion because Osvaldo Lauerdorf, the creator, was accused of having placed a naked woman posing provocatively.

Rumour said that it was his niece who inspired this work of art, with whom he allegedly had a scandalous affair.

The woman died young due to a severe disease and the artist spent his last days in solitude and sorrow.

Legend has it that the young woman’s soul still wanders gloomily around the site.
