The area, which used to belong to the port, now allows visitors to enjoy a park facing the river.
A wide section of this area, known as El Bajo and formerly prone to floods, was transformed into useful land thanks to the construction of the port in 1902-1905. The landscape was renewed again since the beginning of the 80’s. When the port and rail activities were moved southwards, the bars surrounding the port buildings were taken away. Thus, the area formerly used for train-related works was transformed into a public area.
Now, the park, which allows visitors to enjoy the sight of the river, still preserves part of its heritage, such as the old bollards that were used to tie ships or the sections of train tracks, which evoke the comings and goings of wagons full of grains.
