The neighborhood is among the most traditional ones in the city. It was named after Ciro Echesortu, former owner of the lands that were later lotted to build houses. Echesortu's downtown —formally known as Paseo Echesortu— is located at the intersection of Avellaneda Boulevard and Mendoza street, the starting point of a commercial area covering ten blocks.
