The building that houses the Southern Municipal District Center Rosa Ziperovich was designed in the late 20th century by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, constituting his first South American project. Siza resisted the temptation of creating a monumental public building and, instead, chose to give pride of place to natural light and the surroundings. Inspired by a neighboring set of houses with gardens and tree-lined sidewalks, he designed a one-storey building that follows the geometric design of the city’s streets. The white walls with a gray stone base and large windows make for a tranquil sight.
