Built in bronze by sculptor Andrés Zerneri, the Memorial is already an icon of Irigoyen Park.
The Memorial was built by sculptor Andrés Zerneri and it is located at the intersection of 27 de Febrero Avenue and Buenos Aires Street. It was inaugurated on June 14th, 2008, on the 80th anniversary of the birth of Ernesto Che Guevara. The Memorial was made possible thanks to people’s solidarity. 15,000 people donated more than 75,000 keys that were melted down to use the bronze for the statuary. The statue stands in a square that represents a Latin American map. The statue of Che is looking northwest, crossing imaginary looks with that of the Santa Clara Memorial, in Cuba, where Ernesto Che Guevara is buried.
