City Hall

Classic-style building, with two outstanding Carrara-marble lions at its entrance.

Seat of the Municipal Government, it was designed by architect Gaetano Rezzara and built between 1890 y 1896. It comprises three compact floors with a façade relief crowned by a public clock. At ground level, there is a central patio enclosed by an Ionic colonnade. The semicircular-arch openings, rounded corners, and portholes that flank the entrance are some of the highlights of the Italian-style architecture of the end of the 19th Century. The City Hall is also known as “Palacio de los Leones” (Lions Palace) due to the Carrara-marble Lions that stand at the entrance of the building and that were bequeathed by former Mayor Agustín Mazza.
