Barrio Alberdi

Originally, Alberdi was a town designed by Santiago Campbell and founded by Jose Nicolas Puccio. It emerged as a result of the tram engine line that connected San Lorenzo with Rosario, and the agricultural colonies in the south of Santa Fe.

The formal inauguration of the town was held on July 13th, 1876, with a lunch offered to Governor Bayo.
The town gradually generated social, cultural and sport activities for its own citizens since it did not belong to the neighboring city. Rosas Beach was one of its greatest landmarks, with its large dunes and barges; at the same time, it stood out for the number of visitors that arrived every summer.
It was chosen by immigrants from the Nordic countries and, especially, by the English, who found a reedition of their beloved British countryside in Alberdi. Many of them were railway workers, employees of the three banks with English fund capitals, or of shipping and exporting companies, forming a true collectivity over time.
The sources of employment for the villagers were distributed among the factories, some brick kilns, and a blacksmith shop. However, the main activity was the hauling of sand extracted from the river by boats that docked at the entrance of the Isla de los Bañistas and destined for construction companies.
Rondeau Blvd. became the main communication route, and, at the same time, a walking and recreational space for the locals. Initially, it received different names: first "Principal", then "Royal", and later "San Martin." It was the "long street" that led to San Lorenzo and, from there, to Santa Fe.
