The construction of the building began in 1893, and it was opened in 1897. The complex includes a chapel and a garden at the front, facing Salta St., which contribute to its distinctive character.
It was designed on two levels: the ground floor is mainly intended for shared areas, such as the chapel, living rooms and classrooms, while the first-floor houses bedrooms and other private areas for nuns and internees. Wide stairs and layouts provide comfort and accessibility within the complex. The school facade is influenced by neoclassicism, with an orderly and symmetrical structure that reflects the sobriety of this style.
In 1972, the school became a dependency of the Archdiocese of Rosario. Three years later, in 1975, it was renamed as Instituto Virgen del Rosario. At present, the institution offers the full spectrum of education levels.
