A hot spot for Rosario’s hectic artistic and cultural life, it has the additional appeal of being next to the river. Situated in warehouses that belonged to the railroad, on what used to be port premises, it is one of several riverside walks in downtown Rosario.
This unique facility was the brainchild of the Culture and Education Secretariat of the Municipality. Having decided to create a cultural center in one of the old port warehouses, it asked artists from different fields to assess the space and put together the project.
And so was born the Center of Contemporary Expression (Spanish Acronym: CEC). Its name is a testimony to the broadness of the concept: when thinking of a name for the project, the word Art was ruled out, since it limited the space to conventional forms of representation. The word Expression was chosen instead, so as not to leave out fields such as Architecture, Fashion Design and other types of Design, and to become associated with trends and with avant-garde movements and experiments.
The official inauguration was held on 7 December 1995. Since then, it has become a landmark of non-conventional Art and Culture in Rosario.
