Walking downtown and looking up is a must to enjoy all that the city has to offer. Its splendor began between the late 19th and the early 20th centuries. These architectural jewels not only marked the corners, but they also symbolized the progress of Rosario's elite. Most were designed by architects or engineers trained in Buenos Aires or abroad, since at that time there was no local school of architecture.
Many of them are in the heart of the central area, mainly at the corners along Cordoba St., where the traditional pedestrian street is located. They are also in various parts of our city.
The domes are semi-spherical, hollow structures that were conceived to cover circular, square, polygonal or elliptical areas. They are characterized by the use of decorative elements of Spanish, Italian, and French influence, allowing a great diversity of shapes and designs.
When they were built, Rosario was a low-rise city, so they became landmarks visible from a great distance. Their function and aesthetic impact made them distinguishable elements of the urban landscape.
The domes contain great stories; they are silent witnesses of past eras and stand as guardians of the city's cultural identity.
Below are some of the most outstanding ones; these are protected buildings, which in most cases have been declared historical heritage of the city.
